Looking for games for the Wii, which I'm currently holding hostage in my living room untill my brother finds a place to put it, I looked all over the net for suggestions for current and future 'hot' games. Basically, all I read was Wii Play, Wii Fit and Wii Sports. In my humble opinion, if that was really the case, then Wii suck. So I'm here to correct this little error in gaming history, I'll take it upon me to rewrite the annals of Wii-ism, yes people, I'm here to give you a lineup of games, a lineup so damn good, that you'll hate me for unveiling them to you now, as the anticipation to release date will just eat you alive *trust me*. In this overview we cover the upcoming Wii games that are aimed at the 'hardcore' crowd and probably won't fit to play with the girlfriend/wife. Ok on to the list of mindblowing games that I never imagined ending up on a Wii (All games, excluding Clone Wars are Wii exclusive)
Ordered from great to greater (the ones ranked 2-5 are equally good I think, the higher ranked ones have more certain release dates, the numero uno however, that's one badass mofo):
NUMBER EIGHT: Spyborgs, action packed with loads of humor and cartoonish look.
The team working on this worked on so many classic games, including WoW, let's hope this game will join the ever growing list of classics put forth by Capcom. It received some bad comments, but I strongly believe this game has the potential to be great as an exclusive Wii title. This kinda falls out of the 'hardcore' gamer category which this list is supposed to be, but the team behind is has become so powerful that they were able to fight themselves into this must have hardcore game list.
NUMBER SEVEN: What was the FIRST game you thought of when they announced the Wii controller? Honestly, you can tell us... Hell yeah, a lightsaber duel game! A Wii exculsive, the 'Clone Wars' duel focused game is launching soon, and it sounds promising.
It's not exact 1:1 sword fighting, excuse me, lightsaber fighting, but it gets close, and that's what everyone is hoping for. As always the LucasArts games are 50/50 shot at being really good or really bad!
I honestly can't wait for this game, I loved JK II and the lightsaber duels, this is the perfect evolution of that mode.
NUMBER SIX: Then there is a team of extremely high profile developpers working on the next Fatal Frame (Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse) Wii exclusive, that's gotta hurt the 'other' two players in the console market.
'The first Fatal Frame for Wii, this game is a collaborative effort that involves development members from Tecmo, Nintendo and Grasshopper Manufacturer'. This game is touted to be the 'scariest game ever', and certainly is looking to be working hard to achieve that goal. I do feel they could have a put a bit more effort in the looks of the game, we all know the Wii can produce better graphics then this. It differs from Resident Evil series, which is the other scary game on the Wii, as it's not so much about shooting, more about unravelling the mistery and watching how the story unfolds.
NUMBER FIVE: Disaster Day of Crisis, once again a Wii exclusive.
I only recently found out about this one, but it's apparently one of thé most highly anticipated Wii games. Summarized the game goes as follows: You're forced to survive a ton of major (natural) disasters! 'hen a wave of natural disasters pummels the United States, a rogue special forces unit takes advantage of the chaos and seizes a nuclear weapon. Players race a car down a mountain to escape a roaring pyroclastic flow, dodge toppling buildings during a devastating earthquake and swim for their lives in a raging flood. No matter what happens, fight to survive.' The downer on the story here however, is that we don't have a flipping clue on the release date! It's been pushed as far as early 2009 by now, which is a hell of a long wait! It doesn't look 'that' great, but as it's a Nintendo game, I'm sure that won't hurt the game one bit.
NUMBER FOUR: Sadness, the game's title reveals the feeling we have towards it's release date. It's TBA... but it's been TBA forever now..
The game kinda looks too good to be true to be honest, but apparently it's really true what they're showing us. If you're a sucker for a good thriller game with a nice story, this is a no brainer (apparently), but that remains to be seen (we hope) ! 'Sadness is a horror adventure game aimed at adults with strong nerves. Players will need to confront their greatest fears and protect themselves in hopes of not getting trapped inside the main character’s nightmare. The game has eight different extreme endings each with their own premise, which are assigned to a player based on specific factors during the game. To compliment the intense gameplay, the Wii-mote and Wii Nunchuk control the main character’s hands so players feel as though they are in the psychological thriller.'
Oh yes, dare I say it, this is also a Wii exclusive <3
Obviously if the graphics are really that sick (at least for Wii), this means a whole lot will be pre-scripted and this game will be entirely about puzzle solving and storytelling, which is just fine by me, as I love those games on consoles!
The game has a very sad record on announcing any news on the release date, the latest we heard was in April 2008 (after a looooong time of silence) which states: "Without a doubt, Gamebryo is the most powerful engine available for the Wii. After getting familiar with the engine several months ago we made the decision to choose Gamebryo. Since then, our team has been working on Sadness and we are quite impressed," said Tomasz Wisniowski, Project Manager of Nibris. "We will have quite a few graphical effects in our game, which some believe are impossible to attain on the Wii. Gamebryo helped make it possible. We are firmly convinced we made the right choice. From the early stages of pre-production with Sadness, Nibris realized that they would need development technology that allowed for an extreme amount of flexibility in the creative process, which is a cornerstone of the Gamebryo framework," said Geoffrey Selzer, CEO of Emergent. "Sadness is designed to push the bounds of Wii technically and creatively. We are thrilled to be a part of Nibris' ground-breaking product. We're really looking forward to playing Sadness on Wii."
NUMBER THREE: Next in line, Tenchu 4.
As far as I know, it's a Wii exclusive, which is pretty nuts, imo! It's original creators (the ones that made Tenchu 1, obviously) are back with a vengeance, and promise us more of the Ninja stealthing then ever before. I loved the original and played that thing untill my fingers bled, so there's little doubt to the quality of this game, it'll rock.
NUMBER TWO: Rygar, also promises us loads of fun and has been built from the ground up for Wii (as most of the games in this overview), which means, Wii mote madness!
I'm just going to let the trailer do the talking, but keep in mind, whatever the guy is swinging, you'll be using the Wii mote to do that, if that ain't gonne rule, then I don't know what will. The one thing that definitely SUCKS about the trailer, and hopefuly not the game, is that the main theme sounds an awful lot like the theme from Pirates of the Caribbean, seriously. The only 'trailer' around is a Cam version, but it shows more then enough of the game to keep us steaming hot uptill the release in september 2008.
NUMBER 1: And now, I'm going to show you the trailer of the game that is going to propel Wii console sales sky high. It's going to change the image of Wii-gaming forever. I bought my gamecube in order to play freaking Zelda, and I would buy a Wii to play Mad World. I'm telling you right now, if you think it's painful to wait for Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3, then you don't want to read and watch the next bit of this post, as it WILL be added to your most wanted list.
Ladies and gentlemen, Mad World is sick. This game is being developped by some of the most legendary game makers *EVER*, and it shows.
The look of the game, is off the charts sexy. Inspired by Frank Miller's drawings, this is a pure black and white game, with red blood. They made it black & white in order to make the game less disgusting and to make the blood stand out a bit more (isn't that a contradiction?), and it looks freaking sweet.
They promise the gameplay and controls will be excellent, and as it's a Wii exclusive (eat your heart out) it will be tailored to the Wii mote. I personaly can't wait to smash some heads in with the plethora of crazy arms they give you. A funny fact is that they're hesitating to add guns (I hope they don't) as it would take away the style from the whole killing and slashing your ennemies part of the game, seriously. "With its irreverent humor and over-the-top violence, MadWorld will deliver a unique core gaming experience currently missing on the Wii system."
I can only speak in superlatives about this game, so I'll just put down the trailer, and let you judge for yourself. If anything, if the Wii is currently a little white kiddie box as the PS and Xbox fanbase wants you to believe, then the little white kiddie box just grew a huge pair of balls and a groslly disgusting hairy ball sack to hold them in place.
The trailer is actual ingame footage. It's still in early development and will be released in Q1 2009. Before linking the trailer, I'm telling you, you probably don't want to watch this trailer, Mad World will own you.
IGN.com, who witnessed realtime gameplay, says it best "This game owns"
So there you go, something to look forward to as a Wii owner!
